Dear Friends of Agri-Business in India.

some years back we were lured into Jatropha Business by planting waste lands of Jatropha . we are often told by top experts Jatropha do not require water and it will fetch good money in Rain -Fed irrigation,,,from 2004 to 2009 we were in Jatropha plantations and we all lost this fight in creatinga wonderful base for establishinga Biodiesel and thereby Jet fuels and hence we saw bright future for Indias Fuel sector.
But this was destroyed by some people who called them as Paramathmas in Jatropha.
Result
we are out.

2. now coming to Bheema Bamboo  many cos came from abroad and they promised Bheema bamboo will fetch one lakh rs per acre and arranged to sell Tissue culture plants @50 rs witha subsidy 25 off. but i purchased Tissue culture Bheema Bamboo plants and planted in my Sivakasi lands.
I put two borewells
and with a labour charges amonting to rs rs one lakh per annum plus Eb plus maintenance and water charges another one lakh..
after 4 yeras plantation when harvest came we were offred by some buyers only low rates.
Now Like me there are many in Tamilnadu Bheema Bamboo....we are all out in this business ...no buyers  no support from Bamboo National Mission NewDelhi..

so my advice to Farming community..
please do not trust any one who says this will fetch good money..
Beware of Fakes

  1. Another tree grower with burned fingers!. 'Bheema bamboo'is nothing but a selection from our Indian origin variety called 'Bambusa balcooa'. Named as 'Bheema' by one particular company in Tamilnadu and not by foreign companies as you lamented.

There are numerous incidents wherein saplings from normal bamboo cuttings were supplied to farmers at subsidized rate (actual cost will be one fourth of the subsidized price) as Tissue culture plants under 'National Bamboo Mission'.

Inflated yield statics, buy back from biomass power companies, attractive terms like carbon credit, pollution free city Etc. might have lured you. There is already one big group with burnt fingers. You are only a late entrant.
